Sports Physicals

A sports physical (pre-participation exam) makes sure your athlete is healthy and ready to play. We complete the exam, fill out the school or league form, and review heart, lungs, joints, vision, and anything that might affect your child on the field. Available year-round, with extra slots in summer for the back-to-school rush.

What We Check

What we cover in the room

  • Past medical history and any conditions affecting activity
  • Family history — especially heart conditions or sudden cardiac events
  • Heart and lung exam, including blood pressure and rhythm check
  • Musculoskeletal exam — joints, flexibility, prior injuries
  • Vision check and overall growth
  • Concussion history and return-to-play readiness when relevant
  • Conversations about hydration, nutrition, sleep, and mental health under sports stress

Care We Provide

Your visit includes

Thorough, not rushed

Sports physicals are quick — but not drive-through. We do a real exam and have a real conversation about anything that matters.

VHSL and league forms

Bring whatever form your school or league requires. We complete and sign it during the visit — no second trip.

Conditions handled thoughtfully

Asthma, allergies, ADHD, prior concussions — we factor them into the form and talk through how to keep your athlete safe.

Honest conversations with athletes

Hydration, nutrition, sleep, supplements, mental health under pressure — sports physicals are a great moment to talk.

Combined with well visits

If your child is due for a regular well visit, we can do both at once — covered as preventive care by most plans.

Concussion + return-to-play

If your child has had a concussion, we manage the return-to-play process step by step — symptoms, school, then sports.

Come Prepared

What to bring

A few small things ahead of the visit help us spend more time on your child — and less on paperwork.

  • School or league formVHSL or whatever the team requires. We complete and sign it at the visit.
  • Insurance card + photo IDFor the responsible adult on the visit.
  • Prior injury or surgery recordsIf your child has had a concussion, surgery, or significant injury, bring or send the records ahead.
  • Current medications + inhalersAsthma inhalers, EpiPens, ADHD medications — names and doses, plus the actual devices if relevant.

FAQs

Questions families ask

Can my child get a sports physical at AAA Pediatrics?

Yes — for any age, year-round. We have extra slots in summer when most school and league forms are due.

Do I need a separate visit, or can it be combined with a well visit?

If your child is due for an annual well visit, we can do both at the same appointment. Most insurance plans cover well visits as preventive care, and the sports physical is included. If not due, the sports physical can be a stand-alone visit.

What forms do you accept?

We accept VHSL forms and any school or league form your team requires. Bring the actual form (or upload it through the portal) and let us know at check-in so we can budget time.

What if my child has asthma, ADHD, or another condition?

Bring it to our attention. We factor chronic conditions into the form, make sure inhalers, EpiPens, or daily medications are accounted for, and update any action plans the school or coach needs.

What about concussions and return-to-play?

We follow stepwise return-to-play protocols. If your child has had a recent concussion, we’ll evaluate symptom resolution, school readiness, and a graduated return to physical activity before clearing them for full play.

How long is a sports physical good for?

Most schools and leagues accept a sports physical for one calendar year. Some require it within a specific window before the season — check the form. We date and sign so it’s clear.
