What to expect

Your first visit, step by step

  1. Arrival and check-in

Plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early. Our team will confirm your info and help you set up the patient portal on your phone if you haven’t already.

  2. Vitals and intake

We measure height, weight, and vital signs, and go through any forms or concerns you’ve flagged on your intake.

  3. Time with your provider

Your provider reviews history, examines your child head to toe, updates the growth chart, and works through every question on your list.

  4. Vaccines and screenings

If any immunizations or age-appropriate screenings are due, we walk through what and why — and answer every question — before anything happens.

  5. Plan and wrap-up

We summarize the visit in plain language, print any forms you need, and send a visit summary to your portal before you leave the parking lot.

After you leave

First-visit questions

What families ask us most

Does a parent need to come to the first visit?

Yes. At least one parent or legal guardian must come with any patient under 18 for the first visit. If parents are separated, please bring any custody documentation for our records.

How long should I plan for the visit to take?

Plan for 45–60 minutes — longer than a routine follow-up — so we have time for a full history, an unhurried exam, and every question on your list.

Do you see walk-ins?

We don’t take walk-ins, but we hold same-day appointments for sick visits every morning. Call as early as possible at 703-580-6400 and we’ll fit you in.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Just call as soon as you know. Cancellations with at least 24 hours’ notice help us offer the slot to another family who needs it.

Do you have Spanish-speaking staff?

Yes. Dr. Sugastti is fluent in Spanish and our front-office team regularly helps Spanish-speaking families. Just mention your preference when scheduling.

What insurance do you accept?

We accept most commercial plans and many Virginia Medicaid plans. See our Plans Accepted page for a current list, or call 703-580-6400 to confirm your plan before the visit.
