COVID-19 Vaccine

We follow current CDC guidance on COVID-19 vaccination for children. Recommendations and approved formulas have changed several times — so the most useful thing we can do is talk with you, look at your child’s situation, and walk through what’s recommended right now. Call us with questions any time.

Care We Provide

Your visit includes

Current, evidence-based recommendations

We follow the current CDC pediatric COVID-19 schedule. Recommendations have evolved — call us for the latest, not last year’s answer.

Honest conversations

We’re happy to talk through risks, benefits, and your specific concerns — without pressure or a script.

Higher-risk kids first

If your child is immunocompromised or has certain chronic conditions, we prioritize the conversation and the vaccine.

Coordinated with other vaccines

COVID-19 vaccines can be given with other vaccines or during well visits. We help plan it so you’re not making extra trips.

Side-effect support

Sore arm, fatigue, low fever — usually mild and short. We talk through what to expect and what would warrant a call.

Family-level thinking

Decisions about COVID-19 vaccination often involve the whole household — newborns, grandparents, immunocompromised family members. We help you think it through.

Come Prepared

What to bring

A few small things ahead of the visit help us spend more time on your child — and less on paperwork.

  • Insurance card + photo IDFor the responsible adult on the visit.
  • Prior COVID-19 vaccine recordIf your child has been vaccinated before — at our office or elsewhere — bring or send the record.
  • Your specific questionsConcerns are welcome. We’d rather have the conversation than skip it.
  • A comfort itemA favorite toy helps younger patients during shots.

FAQs

Questions families ask

What COVID-19 vaccines are currently recommended for children?

CDC guidance changes as new formulas are approved each year. As of the current season, vaccines are available for children 6 months and older, with specific schedules depending on age and prior vaccination history. Call us for the up-to-date recommendation for your child’s situation.

Are COVID-19 vaccines safe for kids?

Yes. Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been studied extensively in children of the eligible age groups. Side effects are usually mild and short. Serious reactions are rare. We’re happy to talk through the evidence.

My child already had COVID-19 — do they still need the vaccine?

Often yes. Vaccination after infection adds protection and may reduce reinfection risk. Timing matters — we usually wait a few months after infection before vaccinating. We’ll work through the specifics with you.

Can my child get a COVID-19 vaccine and a flu shot at the same time?

Yes. CDC guidance supports giving COVID-19 vaccines at the same visit as other vaccines, including flu. We talk through the spacing options if you’d prefer to separate them.

What about side effects?

Most kids have a sore arm, mild tiredness, or a low-grade fever for a day or two. Serious side effects are rare. We give you a list of what’s normal and what would prompt a call.

Does insurance cover COVID-19 vaccines?

Most commercial plans cover COVID-19 vaccines as preventive care with no copay. Coverage rules have changed over time — call us if you’re unsure and we’ll help confirm.
